Synaptic® Model 3800
Description
A "The Synaptic® Model 3800 2-Channel Pain Management System is clinically indicated for the symptomatic relief and management of chronic intractable pain; and as an adjunctive treatment in the management of post-surgical and post-traumatic acute pain.
The 3800 is a portable, patient controlled, non-invasive pain management system that relies on the patented Synaptic® Technology for reduction and management of pain.

Synaptic® is a patented blend of continuously variable high patient tolerance waveshape, wide-band treatment frequency (400 Hertz to 40,000 Hertz) and high intensity current output (up to about 57 milliamps) to produce a pleasant, efficacious, "treatment pattern" that is unique for each patient - and controlled by the patient. The precise mechanisms by which electrical stimulation affects pain intensity are not known. However, it is postulated that the Synaptic® body treatment pattern reduce pain and symptoms by two main mechanisms of action, "gate control" and by mimicking biological pain control mechanisms.
The Gate Theory of pain control states that by electrical stimulation of primary sensory nerve receptors, such as A-alpha and beta nerve fibers, neural impulses transmitting pain information can be blocked at the synapse and prevented from reaching higher brain centers. As a result the brain perceives no pain. By proper anatomical placement of the four Synaptic® electrodes, the physician can direct the Synaptic® treatment pattern to facilitate this method of pain control.
Repeated and ever increasing wide band frequency sweeps deliver electrical impulses that may mimic and excite biological mechanisms. In most pain patients the unique Synaptic® body treatment pattern induces early and profound pain control, followed by a longer periods without pain. Whereas initial short-term pain cessation is useful for treating pain, longer term anesthesia produces sensory suppression that can result in significant biological consequences. Therefore, analgesia is the essence of optimal pain control!
Synaptic® body stimulator treatment is not known to produce any significant side effects.
Product Features
Model 3800 includes all the performance features of the 3400 and 3600 including:
- Front panel connection for patient electrode leads providing easier patient use and longer lead life. All connectors are pin-coded so that only the correct connection can be made.
- Built-in Model 301- Automatic Treatment Pattern Generator (ATPG) for physician selected, patient specific, treatment programs that can be applied, stored and recalled as required by the clinical situation. Model 301-38 also has a live 5-digit display of output frequency for both channels - accurate to plus/minus 1-Hertz. The ATPG is useful for patients who cannot properly apply the treatment process using the manual remote hand control. The ATPG is also useful for documenting progression of patient recovery over a series of controlled treatments.
